  Game 10 summary - Thur Dec 15th

At home vs Pratum: Cougars Lose 39 to 40

Wow, that was an amazing game!  The Pratum Pirates took total control of the 1st quarter out scoring the Lady Cougars 11 to 0.  In the 2nd quarter Madison, Sam and Taylor combined for 7 points which fell 2 points short of Pratum's 9 points for the quarter.  Going into the 3rd, the Cougars made a come back with Bekah scoring 8, Samantha 4, Madison and Taylor both hit 3 pointers that helped fuel the rally.  Now only down by 6 going into the 4th quarter there was plenty of life on the Cougar bench.  Bekah, Madison and Mariah would combine to tie the score at 31 to 31 with just a couple minutes remaining in the game.  A feat that seemed like an impossible task at half time.  Pratum goes on to score 6 points and Bekah 4 which gives Pratum a 39 to 35 lead with just 37 seconds left. Samantha amazingly scores 2 off a pass from Taylor to get the Cougars within 2 with 32 seconds left.  Pratum Dribbles down and gets tied up with Samantha who makes a key hustle play with 16 seconds remaining.  The possession arrow gives the ball to the Cougars.  The ball gets inbounded at half court to Taylor who hands off to Sam again outside the arc on the right side.  Sam gets a shot off near the baseline again but this time it does not go in.  Samantha struggles for the rebound and gets tied up with Pratum and now the Pirates get the ball under the Cougar's basket with 9 seconds remaining.  Cougars press and immediately Bekah gets called for a foul on the in-bounds play.  Video replay shows the Pratum player tripped over Bekah's leg, and fell out of bounds.  What should have been Cougars ball under their own basket is now double bonus (2 shots) for Pratum.  With 8 seconds left, Pratum misses the 1st shot and make the second.  Now a 3 point game, the Cougars inbound the ball, get the ball to Bekah who gets a 3 point shot off, it doesnt fall but Taylor gets the rebound and puts the ball back up, it doesn't go either.  Bekah gets the rebound and puts it in but it's 1 point short of what's needed.  Now, the game clock was not started right away but the refs rightly so called the game over as Pratum inbounded the ball.  But wait, after reviewing the video, Bekah was fouled as she put up the final shot right when time should have expired.  Had the refs seen this, she would have been awarded a foul shot with a chance to tie the game.  Who knows what would have happened in overtime.  Either way it would was a fun game!  Nice job ladies!!!

Away @ Victor Point: Cougars Win 48 to 23

The Lady Cougars pulled off an impressive win tonight with all 14 players getting time on the floor.  It appeared to be heading for a close game with the Cougars holding a slim 10 to 8 with Lizzy and Bekah both scoring 4 points each in the 1st quarter with Madison adding 2.  Liz added 2 more in the the second quarter along with Madison and Taylor.  Samantha scored 4 and Bekah 8 for the quarter which gave the Cougars a comfortable 12 point lead going into the second half.  This allowed the 3rd quarter to provide playing time for the 6th graders of which Mieli and and Payton each scoring a basket.  This trend continued in the final quarter with Mariah, Madison and Bekah outscoring the Victor Point Vikings 12 to 3.

Game 8 Wed Dec 8th - At Home vs Silver Crest - Cougars Lose 30 to 38   The Lady Cougars fell behind early in the 1st quarter 4 to 12 but staged a come back in the 2nd out scoring the Silver Crest Raiders 8 to 5.  With a 17 to 12 lead at the half the Raiders increased their lead to 29 to 16 by the end of the 3rd quarter.   But the Lady Cougars would not give up and clawed back to within 5 points from a 16 point deficit in the final quarter.

Game 7 Wed Dec 7th - Away @ Bethany - Cougars Lose 38 to 42 A very hard fought game that was close the whole way.  The Lady Cougars started strong leading 6 to 0 and finished out the 1st quarter with a 10 to 6 lead.  Bethany would gain the lead by half time 17 to 16.  In the 3rd quarter Bethany would add 7 more to their lead. The Cougars would fight back in the final quarter to out score Bethany 8 to 4 which fell just short of what was needed.  It is so tough to find playing time for 14 girls, this is another battle the Cougars face while sitting on the bench wanting so bad to play.  It hasn't been easy but they continue to win this battle.

Game 6 Tue Dec 6th - At Home vs Scotts Mills - Cougars Lose 39 to 45 This was a much better performance by the Lady Cougars since the last time they played Scotts Mills.  Highlights include Mariah hitting a 3 point shot in the 1st quarter and Bekah scoring 12 points in the 2nd quarter.  The Cougars trailed 21 to 22 at half time due to tremendous team effort. In the second half the Cougars fell behind by 10 points but then rallied again in the 4th to get within 5.  It just seemed like we needed more time.  Good job girls!

Dec 3rd Jamboree - Good job girls finishing off with 2 wins to take 3rd in the lower bracket!

Wow, that was a lot of basketball!  Eleven games between the two teams entered by Central Howell,  even coach had to take a nap after that!   Madison scored a total of 31 points in the 6 games played by the 'A team', Bekah and Hailey were recognized with certificates of achievements which were among some of the highlights.  Also Cougars had some sweet revenge beating Silver Crest and Pratum.

Game 5 summary - Thur Dec 1st

Away @ Pratum: Cougars Lose 27 to 22

This was a dog fight from beginning to end.  Pratum Pirates took a 10 to 4 lead in the first quarter but the Lady Cougars fought back with Samantha and Madison combining for all of the Cougar's 6 points for the quarter to out score the Pirates 6 to 4 for the quarter.  This made it a more manageable 14 to 10 deficit.  In the 3rd quarter the Cougars fell behind by as much as 10 points but again fought back with Mariah and Samantha each scoring a basket and Bekah adding 4!  The Pirates were held to just 3 points in the 4th quarter. Bekah and Laura each managed to score one basket for the quarter which gave the Pirates the 27 to 22 win.  During the "5th quarter" Hailey scored her first basket!  The Cougars had 5 players contribute to the score while Pratum had only 3 players scoring points. We'll get 'em next time girls!

Game 4 - Wed Nov 30th at Home vs Victor Point: Cougars Win 52 to 26
Good job again girls!  Once again putting out great effort at the beginning of the game set the tone for the rest of the game.  Cougars out scored VP 14 to 5 in the first quarter and 14 to 3 in the second for a 28 to 8 lead at the half. In the 3rd quarter VP made a small come back out scored the Cougars 10 to 8, but the Cougars responded and finished strong in the 4th and out scored VP 16 to 8.  Bekah and Madison U combined for 36 of the Cougars points.  Bekah with a couple blocked shots and a 3 by Madison made for nice highlights.  Laura contributed 6, Taylor and Lizzy scored 4 each while Samantha added 2.

Game 3 - Mon Nov 28th Home vs Bethany: Cougars Win 50 to16 Ok, 'good job girls' is an understatement!  Nice job Cougars, you wanted it and played your hearts out.  I'm very proud of you all!  The first quarter ended with Cougars up 6 to 4.  It was looking like it would be a close game until the second quarter Bekah and Madison turned up the heat and scored 15 while Laura added 2.  This made the half time score 23 to 8 Cougars because of an effective press.  Part way through the 3rd quarter Bethany waved the white flag for the most part.  This opened the door for the 'B team' to get additional playing time and make some scores.  Bekah led all scorers with 17, Madison and Samantha had 10 points each, LIzzy and Laura both scored 4 points each, Megan and Kelsey each scored 2 and Tayor added 1 point on a free throw.

Game 2 - Tue Nov 22nd @ Silver Crest: Cougars Lose  Scores and stats coming soon.  but we do know the Cougars lost by about 20.  Once the cougars get a few basics down they should be ok.  A few highlights, Bekah had at least 2 bocked shots, in the last quarter the Cougars turned up the heat and had a number of steals and forced the Silver Crest Raiders to turn the ball over several times. Keep your heads up and hang in there!

Game 1 - Mon Nov 21st @ Scotts Mills:  Cougars Lose Ouch...  I think the final score was 48 Scotts Mills to 29 Central Howell, give or take a few points.

There was a few highlights however for the Lady Cougars, foremost was Payton taking the charge.  That shows she was in the correct defensive position, blocking the driving lane, getting there and being set before the dribbler.  The Cougars got a slow start but came back a couple of times to make Scotts Mills nervous.  There was no lack of effort on the girls part!
